What could be more enjoyable than a full day sketching in the beautiful and historic town of St. Augustine, Florida? Brian Bomeisler, son of Betty Edwards, will lead you through a practical, hands-on day of sketching in the streets and parks of St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States, and he will expand upon the formal drawing instruction you have already received. This one-day class is designed for anyone interested in learning sketching techniques and keeping a sketchbook. The prerequisite is to have taken the 5-Day Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain® Workshop, however it is also open to those who already have drawing experience and training.
The class will start out at The St. Francis Inn and we will walk the streets of St. Augustine sketching buildings and sculptures as we go! It will be an intensive and fun day of drawing with other students. St. Augustine has a wealth of material to use as reference, from 16th and 17th Century buildings to public sculptures such as the one above, sketched by Brian Bomeisler.
The marvelous town offers ample material to practice your sketching techniques. Sketchbook drawing is an art unto itself, requiring skills that can be taught: e.g., how to hold the sketchbook, how to use the “basic unit,” how to perform “sighting” while sketching. The variety of mediums we will use include pencil, pen and ink, and a specific technique using an ordinary felt tip marker.
For those students who have not taken Brian's 5-Day DRSB Workshop, it will be especially helpful to read ahead of time Betty Edwards' Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, particularly Chapters 7 and 8.
The cost of this One-Day Workshop is $425. To Register for this workshop please click HERE. Admission to the Castillo de San Marcos is included in the cost of the workshop. Reservations are required in advance, so please contact Sandy Manning at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up.
